Went surfing yesterday with a couple buddies, down to Bradenton (Cortez). The conditions were really eerie: cool, windy, 66 degree water, swell from the SW, 2-3ft with occasional 4ft sets. There was a very heavy seafog blanketing the area that made it almost impossible to see past the second break. As usual these conditions always spawn discussion of shark attacks. So, as you can imagine, surfing the second break was a little spooky. After no more than a few minutes I opted for hanging further in shore and dealing with some nasty shore break.
We did manage to catch a few decent rides though without getting ground into the shallow bottom too often. Overall it was fun surf, though I was definitely looking forward to a nice, long, hot shower when I got back home a couple hours after sunset.
